The Legacy  

Dr. Anthony F. Ceddia has been the most influential and longest serving president in the 133-year history of the University. When he joined then-Shippensburg State College in 1981, Shippensburg had approximately 5,700 undergraduate and graduate students and a regional reputation for academic quality. During his tenure, the University has grown to more than 7,500 students, added several major buildings, and increased the university’s majors, earning it a regional and national reputation for its innovative programming, fiscal accountability, and service to Pennsylvania and the nation.  

As president of Shippensburg University and with Valerie by his side, Tony Ceddia has created a legacy. Tony and Val have both made significant contributions to the intellectual, cultural and economic vitality of central Pennsylvania while nurturing an environment where thousands of students are provided with excellence educational opportunities.  

Continuing the Legacy  

The Shippensburg University Foundation invites you to recognize Tony and Valerie’s years of service with a special tribute gift designates to the Anthony F. and Valerie Ceddia Student Leadership Endowment Scholarship Fund – Your gift will honor the Ceddia legacy that will continue at Shippensburg University forever.  

Anthony F. and Valerie Ceddia Student Leadership Endowment Scholarship Fund was announced in November, 2004 in honor of Dr. Ceddia’s upcoming June 2005 retirement.  

For the last 24 years, Tony and Val have opened their home to faculty, students, alumni, and volunteers and they have truly established a family-like atmosphere for all to enjoy. Since arriving on campus in 1981, both Tony and Val have been engaged in providing an unsurpassed level of leadership, commitment, and dedication to SU. Likewise, Tony and Valerie have provided their insight and leadership to a variety of professional, community, and civic organizations.  

Both Tony and Val have encouraged young men and women to be refined into capable student leaders within the myriad of campus organizations that operate on the Shippensburg University campus.  

This endowed scholarship fund will provide further encouragement for Shippensburg University students to become active in positions of leadership and provide a vehicle to recognize their efforts.  

Investing in Leaders of the Future  

The Shippensburg University Foundation will award the Anthony F. and Valerie Ceddia Student Leadership Endowment Scholarship Fund to full-time junior or senior undergraduate students at Shippensburg University who have demonstrated leadership within a campus organization during the early part of their campus experience and have demonstrated good character and citizenship.
