The Campaign

After more than two years of extensive work behind the scenes, Shippensburg University and the Shippensburg University Foundation officially launched "Navigating into the Future - The Campaign for Shippensburg University" on September 6, 2002.

The largest comprehensive campaign in the history of the University, the multi-year Navigating into the Future campaign reflects both a commitment to the University's traditions and a careful consideration of its future. The campaign, also the largest campaign ever undertaken among the 14 state system universities, has four major components.

High priority facilities, highlighted by a Performing Arts Center;
Endowment to support students through scholarship programs, faculty through endowed professorships and endowed chairs, and a wide range of programs and initiatives;

Funds for new technology and equipment that will support the University's ongoing use of technology to improve its educational programs; and

Support for the Annual Fund that, historically, has sustained many programs.

Dr. Anthony Ceddia, president of the University, called the campaign "our most historic fund-raising effort. This program, when it is completed and successful - and I believe that it will be - will set the University up to confront whatever challenges it will face over the next few decades."

Navigating into the Future, said John M. Aichele, president of the Board of Directors of the SU Foundation, "represents an investment in the future. Shippensburg University is a gem in the Cumberland Valley and has a great future. The SU Foundation is expanding its horizons and its efforts to help make that future a successful one."
The SU Foundation Board of Directors and the University Council of Trustees developed the components of Navigating into the Future after extended consultation, including a joint planning session. The two groups spent several months analyzing and discussing both the University's strengths and its most pressing needs.
The key focus points centered upon the findings of the in-depth evaluation by the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges, a comprehensive Facilities Master Plan, an Internal Needs Assessment, and an extensive Feasibility Study. Based upon those findings and broad-based strategic planning, the two groups voted on September 18, 1999, to undertake a comprehensive campaign to raise capital funds for the University. The result is Navigating into the Future.
