Mission Statement

The Shippensburg University Foundation, a private, nonprofit organization, was created to seek private financial resources to support Shippensburg University. All gifts to Shippensburg are made to the Foundation, which manages the funds. The SU Foundation's Board of Directors, including University alumni, parents, friends, and business and foundation supporters of Shippensburg, are major contributors to the University and take leading roles in annual and capital fund raising campaigns.

The History of the Foundation

From 1960 through 1977, the Shippensburg State College Trust was the primary agency for receiving gifts from private sources, especially from alumni. During that time, 60 separate funds were established, two of which were unrestricted, and the holdings of the Trust grew from $3,000 to more than $400,000.

The Shippensburg University Foundation was created in 1977 in recognition of the need for increased private support to sustain the margin of excellence at the University. Incorporated under the nonprofit corporation law of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the purpose of receiving gifts, grants, devises, or bequests for the ultimate use of Shippensburg University, the Foundation received its tax-exempt status under the leadership of its first president, Richard D. Rife.

The SU Foundation opened its doors in January 1978. In April 1978, the Shippensburg State College Trust was dissolved and all of the Trust's assets were transferred to the Foundation.

Today, the SU Foundation administers and manages more than $41million in assets.
