A Message from the Dean

For nearly a century and a half, The Ezra Lehman Memorial Library has served as an important academic anchor for Shippensburg University. It is the special place where students learn, work on projects together, study quietly, exchange intellectual ideas, or just meet for coffee. It has been a focal point in the academic life of thousands of Shippensburg University students throughout the decades.

Today, libraries have changed considerably. Now, more than ever, all colleges need an up-to-date, state-of-the-art library that not only contains the research tools necessary for learning but also provides the type of environment that contributes to learning and our students’ success. To invest in our future, Shippensburg University is working hard to update and dramatically improve Lehman Library and its resources. We must modernize our Library so that we can transform the learning experience for our students and faculty. We need to enhance the physical environment as well as the capability of students and faculty research. We need to introduce them to new tools and techniques and help them access and evaluate information.

To this end, we have made a concerted effort to purchase and make available, as we are able, valuable research tools, electronic databases and resources necessary for our faculty and students. Many of these resources are now available in full text so students can access the information from anywhere at their convenience.  In addition, we have Libraryplans to vastly improve our physical space. This summer, we are updating and renovating our circulation desk.  Next summer, we hope to renovate the entire first floor. The remaining renovations to the building, as well as a much needed new addition, will occur as funds become available.

Your generous support plays a crucial role in supporting and updating Lehman Library and there are several ways you can help.  First, we have initiated a Memorial Bookplate program that can serve as a perfect gift or pay special tribute to a special someone. For every $25.00 gift, a handsome bookplate is located inside the front cover of a book, which is added to the collection. In addition, gifts can be made to the Library Fund.  These gifts help us purchase library resources and create a welcoming academic environment that will facilitate faculty/student interaction and bring people together. Finally, you can join our Library Advisory Board. Our Advisory Board members help us locate resources and make decisions that benefit the academic community.

The Ezra Lehman Memorial Library has always been the physical and intellectual center of Shippensburg University. Help us to create the future!
