The Spiritual Center and Interfaith Chapel

In today's complex world, many young people are not spiritually prepared to face the challenges that await them as they enter college and prepare for the future. As they face special spiritual needs and questions, today's students are looking for a place to explore their existence and search undisturbed for answers.

Shippensburg University and the Shippensburg University Foundation have joined together to build a 7,000 square foot Spiritual Center and Interfaith Chapel on private land adjacent to campus. The $2.3 million facility has direct campus access by way of Adams Drive and pedestrian access by way of a footbridge leading to the front entrance.

Funding for the Spiritual Center and Interfaith Chapel came from the "To Enhance the Spirit" Campaign.
The Spiritual Center includes a 2,300 square foot Interfaith Chapel with moveable seating that accommodates more than 200 people. The design also includes a Narthex that serves as a large common area and overflow seating for the Chapel, an Inglenook for small gatherings, and a Meditation Room for use by small groups or for individual worship and reflection.

In addition to worship space, the Center provides office spaces for student religious organizations and campus ministries as well as meeting rooms for campus religious organizations and a kitchen.

The Spiritual Center and Interfaith Chapel serves as a haven in which students can join together to meet their spiritual needs. They may sit and meditate, kneel alone in prayer, or read of values and ideals from their holy books or other devotional literature. Activities are organized and conducted for students, making the Spiritual Center a focal point for involvement with their God and fellow man.
